CLOUD AREA GRANITE FORMATIONS<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<p><strong><em>Date:<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Saturday, May 22, 2004\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a08:30 a.m. \u2013 5:00 p.m. (roughly 8 hour trip)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Leader:<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Terry Boerboom, MN Geological Survey<\/p>\n<p><u><strong><em>H<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>IGHLIGHTS:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/u><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>This trip will focus on the various granite formations in the St. Cloud area.\u00a0\u00a0Stops planned include quarry sites (dimension stone quarries containing spectacular exposures of the granite that are cut by diabase dikes) outcrops that feature St. Cloud red granite, Reformatory granodiorite, glacially polished and striated outcrops, Rockville Granite, saprolite, corestones, glacially induced thrust faults, cretaceous shale with gypsum crystals (which we can collect) and perhaps Richmond granite which is a unique green charnockitic granite.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>WHEN AND HOW:\u00a0<\/u>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>We will meet at Guardian School Bus Company (2779 Highway 10 S) located just southeast of St. Cloud.** This is where we will load the bus and where we will leave the cars.\u00a0\u00a0Check-in begins\u00a0<strong>8:30 a.m.\u00a0\u00a0Please arrive early to allow for timely departure at 9:00 a.m.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0(Due to limited parking at road cuts, no private vehicles allowed on this trip.)\u00a0\u00a0Everyone gets to ride with the leader!!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>++!!PLEASE NOTE!!++<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Due to the special charter of the bus for this trip,\u00a0<u>space is limited<\/u>.\u00a0\u00a0Participation is limited to 40 participants and will be based on a first-registered\/paid, first-seated arrangement. Each field trip participant will be required to sign a waiver of liability prior to the start of the field trip.\u00a0\u00a0This is scheduled to be an all day trip.
